UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL KERRY ELECTIVE SURGERIES

The necessary resources must be put in place immediately, to facilitate the resumption / continuation of Elective Surgeries at University Hospital Kerry, according to Fianna Fáil County Councillor, Michael Cahill. The Rossbeigh man tabled an Emergency Motion at the March monthly meeting of Kerry County Council, calling on Health Minister, Stephen Donnelly and the Health Service Executive (HSE) to urgently provide these resources, as he says, a large backlog has developed since these surgeries ceased at the beginning of the year.

“I have been contacted by a large number of patients from Killorglin, Cahersiveen and throughout South Kerry who had already been waiting a number of months and who had received appointments for March and April and their procedures have now been deferred a further 3, 4 and 5 months” stated Councillor Cahill.

‘The people of Kerry deserve better than to have planned surgeries postponed for months and all the extra stress and unnecessary anxiety that it causes. I am hoping that Minister Donnelly’s recent visit to UHK has opened his eyes to the issues there and that he will act swiftly on my call to get these Elective Surgeries up and running and back on track again, pronto’ added Councillor Cahill.
