GAA LOTTO DRAW

The latest Scartaglen GAA Lotto Draw took place in Flemings Bar on Sunday evening April 7. The jackpot of €5,800 was not won. Numbers drawn were: 4, 11, 15, 16. Consolatio­n prizewinne­rs in the Lucky Dip were as follows: €40 - Craig Brosnan, Scartaglen; €30 each to Con Keane, Scartaglen and Anne Drummy, Tralee; €20 each to Ava and Kyle Kerins, Scartaglen; Adam Tangney, Scartaglen and Jerry O Connor, Scartaglen. The next draw will take place on April 28th in Hughes Bar, Cordal when the jackpot will be €6,000.

CONFIRMATI­ON

Congratula­tions to the girls and boys from the locality who received The Sacrament of Confirmati­on in Castleisla­nd Parish Church on Wednesday of last week. Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne presided at the Confirmati­on Ceremony where 75 young people in all were confirmed.

FIRST COMMUNION

First Communion Day in Scartaglen will be on Saturday April 27th with mass being celebrated at 2pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

A statement of Income and Expenditur­e for Castleisla­nd Parish for 2023 can be found in the boxes containing the weekly collection envelopes or from The Parish Office. Income from weekly envelope collection­s amounted to €143,087.65 in 2023. The Parish Finance Committee and Fr. Mossie Brick PP thank all for their generosity and support for their parish during 2023. The Parish Finance Committee is as follows: Chairman - John Pender, Secretary Brid Wrenn, Liz Galwey, Siobhan Kearney, Mairead McCarthy, Jackie Reidy, Fr. Maurice Brick PP, Noreen O Sullivan (parish Secretary in attendance).

PETERS PENCE

The annual diocesan collection in aid of Peters Pence (Propagatio­n of the Faith) will be taken up at massees in the parish this weekend.

RALLY OF THE LAKES

This years Rally of the Lakes will take place on Saturday and Sunday May 4th/5th. On Sunday May 5th the Rally can be seen at Knockrour, Knockreagh, Ballahanto­uig, John Richards Cross, Knockacorr­in and Annablaha. This locality will stage SS11 and SS14 rally stages, with road closing times being 10.35am to 17.40pm.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Scartaglen Senior Ladies had a good 4-17 to 4-8 win in the Donal Curtin Cup competitio­n in a high scoring game played at Glenbeigh on Sunday last. Cromane hammered home 4 goals in the opening half and trailed by a point at the break - the score then reading Scartaglen 1-12 Cromane 4-2, Scarts goal coming from Julieanne O Connell in the 27th minute. In the second half, goals from Shauna Tangney, Fiona Nelligan and Leah Boyle set Scart on the road to victory. Scartaglen scorers: Shauna Tangney (1-5), Leah Boyle (1-3), Julieanne O Connell (1-1), fiona Nelligan (1-0), Aoife Dublea (04), Muireann Rahilly (0-2), Abbie Brosnan and Emma Kerin (0-1 each).

COUNTY LEAGUE

Scartaglen defeated Rathmore B 1-10 to 1-8 at Rathmore on Sunday last in Division 5B of the Credit Union County League and picked up 2 more county league points in the process.

GREYHOUND RACING

A Scartaglen winner at The kIngdom Greyhound Stadium Tralee on Saturday night last was “Blackpool Julie” who won in a time of 29.45 for owner Stuart Welford of Mount and trainer John P O Sullivan of Knockrour. Another local winner recently at Tralee was “Dromulton Milly” who won in 29.58 for Jack Breen of Dromulton.
