Killorglin Community College marks students’ achievements
KILLORGLIN Community College last Thursday celebrated its annual end-of-year Student Awards Ceremony, with Principal Fiona O’ Brien stating this week that the event gave the whole school community the opportunity to applaud and honour its students for their hard work and achievements.
The ceremony, hosted by Deputy Principal Donal O’Reilly, saw over 75 students recognised for their achievements, with awards presented in multiple categories ranging from academic excellence to diligence to UCC+ Achievement Awards, and many more.
The esteemed guest of honour for the evening was past student Jack Brosnan, who is now a teacher in Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee.
The most coveted award of the night, Student of the Year, went to Aoibhinn Coffey, with Aoibhinn described as a “wonderful, dedicated and hardworking student”.
Federica Lazzari received the award for Best Leaving Certificate of 2023 Award and is currently studying in the Netherlands, while she also received an award for academic achievement having earned over 600 points in her Leaving Certificate exams in 2023. Darren O’Sullivan received the Best Junior Cycle of 2023 Award.
Killorglin Community College has a strong STEM focus, and that was reflected in many of the sponsored awards of the night. Matthew Mullins Mangan and Padraig Casey were honoured with the Liebherr Junior/Senior Technology and Maths Awards. Archie Mangan and Mariia Skrypnyk were the winners of the Junior/Senior Astellas Science and Maths Awards.
The Cara Credit Union Junior/ Senior Awards for Computing went to Melissa Callaghan and Dylan Coffey. The Junior/Senior Awards for Languages were presented to Keira Coffey and Ciara O’Shea. The Fexco Junior/ Senior Business Awards were taken home by Katie Brennan and Michael O’Shea.
The K-Fest Junior/Senior Art Awards went to Eabha McGregor and Tegan Golden.
Other awards acknowledged aspects of school life.
The AIB Junior/Senior Sports Achievements awards went to Christopher Kelliher and Jamie O’Sullivan. The School Ethos Awards are incredibly special awards that acknowledge students who best represent the school’s core values of ‘Courtesy, Loyalty, Learning and Responsibility’, and these went to two very deserving winners, Yeva Nabokova and Chloe O’Shea .
The college said that it would like to acknowledge all its wonderful sponsors, whom they work closely with throughout the year in various projects, talks and visits.
