Man charged with murder of gentle giant
A LITHUANIAN man has been charged with the murder of ‘gentle giant’ Dmitry Hrynkevich in a Tralee estate three years ago.
Mr Hrynkevich – who stood an imposing 7 feet and 6 inches in height – died at University Hospital Kerry on October 2, 2015.
He had been found with serious head injuries in the front garden of a house in the Killeen Woods Estate in Tralee two days earlier.
The deceased – who was due to celebrate his 25th birthday just weeks later – was often described as a ‘gentle giant’ and was known all over the county due to his remarkable stature.
On Tuesday morning at a property in The Kerries, gardaí arrested a Lithuanian national in connection with Mr Hrynkevich’s death.
Arnoldas Ivanauskas, with an address at Parklands, Tralee, was brought before Killarney District Court on Tuesday morning charged with the murder of Mr Hrynkevich at Killeen Woods, Tralee.
Judge David Waters heard that when he was cautioned and formally charged with the murder of Mr Hrynkevich Mr Ivanauskas made no reply.
Det Sergeant Ernest Henderson said that the State’s application was for a remand in custody overnight at Tralee Garda Station. The application was granted.
Judge Waters approved free legal aid for the defendant who is represented by Tralee solicitor Pat Mann. Mr Ivanauskas was brought before Tralee District Court on Wednesday where he was further remanded in custody to Cork Prison.
