Great support for Curraheen project at bingo event in KDYS
THEY could have filled it twice over as the greater Tralee public came out in droves to support a fundraising event in aid of establishing a special community room at Curraheen Church.
The Church, which is part of the Catholic parish of St John’s Tralee, has embarked on a campaign to improve the existing community facility where all manner of local groups meet regularly.
To that end, they hosted a Monster Bingo afternoon at the KDYS on Denny Street on Sunday amid a host of great door prizes, all sponsored by a business sector that rowed in behind the campaign as much as the bingo-playing public.
“On behalf of the Curraheen Community Room Extension Committee, we wish to express our sincere thanks to everyone for supporting this fundraising event and we also wish to express our sincere gratitude to all who sponsored prizes and gifts,” Fr Francis Nolan said.
The proceeds of the event will now go towards the work, which is already underway.
“The work has commenced recently and its hoped will be completed early in the New Year,” committee member Ann O’Shea Daly said. The work entails bringing the facilities up to Health and Safety Standards and will also include a kitchenette and wheelchair-accessible toilet.
The room is presently being used by many community groups such as the ICA, the Community Council, the GAA, the First Responders, the Church Liturgy Group, the Senior Citizens as well as the parents’ councils of Derryquay and Blennerville. “It is hoped that the newly developed room will generate further community activity and will be of special benefit to all families.”
All set for a winning afternoon at the Monster Bingo in aid of Curraheen Community Room in the KDYS on Sunday were Susan O’Shea, June McAuliffe, Esther Brosnan and Carol O’Shea.
