TRADERS in Castle Street got Christmas off to a flyer this week when launching their ‘Christmas in Castle Street’ initiative.

As Tralee’s main thoroughfare, Castle Street is traditionally the epicentre of town and in recent years has seen a resurgence in footfall as business is picking up again in the famous street.

The launch also marks the fact that Castle Street is ‘getting back to its roots’ again, according to Billy Nolan.

“We have a lot to offer people who want to shop on Castle Street this Christmas.

“Castle Street was, and still is, the main street in Tralee and this promotion is designed to help us get back on our feet again,” he said.

Billy praised how well Tralee looks at the moment with its stunning festive lighting display.

He said the fact that many of the shops have made a huge effort to look festive this year is adding to the atmosphere.

There is also free parking in Tralee for the Christmas period, while the addition of the Lidl at the top of Edward Street is also leading to more people shopping in the Castle Street area.

“You must think positive these days. Castle Street is getting back to its former self again and this promotion reflects that. We’ve noticed the amount of people that are going up the town shopping has nearly doubled on what it was this time last year. Even the smaller businesses in the upper part of Castle Street are starting to thrive again,” Billy said.
