The Sligo Champion

‘Crazy’ on drink

-

A CORKMAN who entered a house in Chapel Street was arrested at the scene.

Before Sligo District Court was Michael Costelloe (40) with an address in Limerick but now said to be living with his mother in Cork.

He admitted a charge of entering the house on March 27th 2009.

The court heard he was arrested on foot of a bench warrant that was recently executed in Waterford.

Inspector Sean McGinty said Costelloe entered a woman’s home and was there a short time before leaving.

He left the front door open as he left and Gardai managed to arrest him at the scene.

He originally pleaded guilty to the offence in November 2009 and the case was adjourned for a probation report.

“We haven’t seen him since,” said the Inspector.

Mr. Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending), pleaded that Costelloe had Hepatitis C and only had six months to live.

Costelloe said he had gone “crazy” on alcohol after the death of his brother four years ago.

“You’ll have no problem with me again,” he told Judge Kevin Kilrane.

He said he contracted hepatitis from a blood transfusion he received in 1979.

Judge Kilrane remanded the defendant on bail to May 30th for medical and probation reports.
