Fun- loving Aidan was a keen golfer and footballer

THERE was deep sorrow at the recent, tragic death in England of 37- year- old Aidan Gallagher, a native of Carrowreag­h Cooper, Tubbercurr­y.

He died as a result of injuries sustained while working on a road near Lidgate, between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

He had lived in Felixstowe and Ipswich during more than 12 years in Suffolk.

He was the father of three children, two daughters aged 14 and 12, and a son, aged 9.

He returned to Ireland several times annually.

He had been a keen Gaelic footballer in his youth and was a promising golfer.

He had played underage football with Curry, winning many trophies and medals.

They included a county minor ‘ A’ championsh­ip in 1995.

He was a past pupil of St Patrick’s National School, Moylough, and the Marist Convent in Tubbercurr­y.

While in Moylough NS in 1990, he was a member of the school band that took part in the St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York.

He was described as fun- loving, gentle and humorous.

Before leaving Ireland, he had been employed by Surlis SuperValu and Mullen Transport, Tubbercurr­y.

His remains were brought home to Sligo where they reposed at the home of his parents Maureen and Jack before removal to St Patrick’s Church, Moylough.

Funeral Mass was concelebra­ted by Fr Leo Henry, PP, Curry; Fr Martin Jennings, PP, Tubbercurr­y; Fr Dan O’Mahony, Cloonacool and Fr Joe Gavigan, Ballaghade­rreen. Burial took place in Rhue Cemetery. Aidan is survived by his parents, by brothers Shane and Declan; and by sisters Mary, Joan, Ciara and Helen.
