Would anyone like a game of tennis?

WITH WIMBLEDON in full swing it’s a case of ‘ anyone for tennis’ at Sligo Tennis Club.

The club is joining forces with Allwin Tennis, Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnershi­p and Youth Sport West in celebratio­n of Sligo’s designatio­n as European Town of Sport.

Olwyn O’Toole of Allwin Tennis said: “This month the aim is to give everyone the opportunit­y to play tennis.

“There are camps across the county for children, slashed summer membership and adult coaching available at Sligo Tennis Club.”

In another exciting developmen­t for the sport, there is the debut of the new tennis team event’ Tag Tennis.’

Tag Tennis is a brand new team event with each team competing against their opponents in singles and doubles.

There is a subs bench at the back of the court, where subs tag in and players allowed to play only a maximum of three points in a row.

The first Tag Tennis Tournament will be a one- day event on Sunday next, July 6th, at the Tennis Club from 11am to 2pm.

Entry fee is € 10 and the event will be followed by the Men’s Wimbledon Final and a BBQ in the bar. To enter text 086- 351- 4123 by Friday. Meanwhile, parks tennis camps for children are running across Sligo, with month- long camps at Oxfield Park, Strandhill Community Park and a new venue of the Sligo Park Hotel.

These camps run for one hour per day for just € 25.

Week- long camps run for 90 minutes per day at Ballinafad, Geevagh, Tubbercurr­y, Cloonacool and Collooney. The cost is € 15 for the week. Tennis summer camps also run at Sligo Tennis Club from 10am to 2pm each day in the weeks starting June 30th, July 7th and July 14th.

Sligo Tennis Club is also taking part in National Tennis Open Day on Saturday next, July 5th.

It’s a chance for everyone to come and play for free from 11am to 3pm.

There is also an open tournment for all ages and abilities on Sunday from 11am to 2pm.
