CORPUS CHRISTI
The Manorhamilton's Corpus Christi procession took place on Sunday week just after the 11.30am Mass was over in St. Clare's Church. The processtion followed the usual route from St. Clare's Church via the Fire Station and Glenfarne Road Roundabout to McDermott Terrace and nearby the Hillside Crescent Marian Shrine.
Fr. Oliver Kelly PP, VF and Fr. Tom Mannion CC, who carried the monstrance, led the procession while Fr. Kevin O'Rourke was also in attendnace. Participants in the procession included the young people who recently received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation as well as the St. Clare's Church Choir and people who attended Sunday Mass. Everyone was very happy that the weather for this year's procession was good.
When the procession reached its McDermott Terrace/ Hillside Crescent destination there was a stop over for a visit to the McDermott Community House. Fr. Oliver Kelly recalled that four residents of the area had sadly passed onto their eternal reward since last year's procession, namely Winfred Sweeney, John Joe McLoughlin, Margaret Fox and Michael O'Boy. Many people expressed thanks that another annual Corpus Christi procession had taken place successfully in Manorhamilton since in previous years poor weather conditions led to its cancellation with a service taking place in St. Clare's Church instead.
BRENDAN RETIRES
Brendan Keaney McDermott Terrace, who recently rode off into the sunset from his job in the Sligo Reginal Hospital Catering Department is wished a long and happy retirement by his many neighbours, friends and acquaintences in the Manorhamilton area and further afield.
Brendan worked in Sligo Regional Hospital for the past fourteen years while earlier in his life he was employed in England to which he emigrated from his native West Cavan like many Irish people in the last century. Many people are extremely grateful to Brendan for his kindness and obliging kelpfulness over several years. In particular he often assisted people who needed a lift to or from Sligo frequently waiting there long after he finished work to accommodate a friend or neighbour.
His many good turns are very much appreciated by all the people he helped out whenever he could do so. Brendan, who is a man with many interests, is a lifelong supporter of his home county of Cavan particularly in GAA footballing matters. No doubt he will continue to follow the Breffni Blues for many years to come in Kingspan Breffni Park or at other venues with his next outing in this regard likely to take place to whatever football grounds Cavan will playing at in the forthcoming All- Ireland Qualifiers.
