SILVER JUBILEE

Congratulations to Fr. Gerard McMorrow, of Main St., Collooney who celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his Ordination with a special concelebrated Mass last Sunday June 22 in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney.

Twenty five years ago, on 10th June 1989, Fr. Gerard was ordained in Thurles Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Brisbane, Australia. Fr. Gerard’s original ordination chasuable and stole were made and embroidered by his mother, Evelyn, who vested him in them during the liturgy, as is the tradition here in Ireland. This ritual has been repeated on the 10th; 20th and the 25th anniversaries when his mother and sister, Helen, have visited Australia for the celebrations.

Fr. Gerard is Parish Priest of two parishes in Australia, namely St. Gerard Majella, Chermside West and St. Paschal Baylon, Wavell Heights. Again congratulations to Fr. Gerard, his parents, Evelyn and Fechin, his sister, Helen and brothers, Oliver, John, Anthony and Fechin, their spouses and families as well as many who travelled from Australia and America to be part of this special celebration.

SHAVE OR DYE

Tony's Little Rascals' are holding a Shave or Dye Fundraising Night in aid of The Irish Cancer Society, In The Owenmore Inn in Collooney on Saturday July 5 from 8pm- 1am. Dj, food and spot prizes on the night. Please come and support, all welcome.

NOVENA

The Saint Maria Goretti Novena with the theme of “Family Prayer” will be held in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney from Saturday June 28 to Sunday July 6. Mass and Novena prayers each evening at 8pm will be celebrated by the following priests: Fr. Joe Gavigan ( Saturday, June 28); Fr. James McDonagh ( Sunday June 29); Fr. WEDDING BELLS

Best wishes to Sligo Champion Editor, Jenny McCudden and her husband, Melvin Smith who were married on June 20 and celebrated in Markree Castle, here in Collooney. Health and happiness to you both!

LOTTO WINNER

Congratulations to Kathleen Lavin, who won the Jackpot figure of € 3700 at Bingo recently which has been held in the Parish Hall, Collooney with proceeds in aid of Collooney’s Handball Club. Well done Kathleen!

COOLANEY MACRA

Sligo Macra na Feirme are celebrating their 70th Anniversary and will be holding a dinner dance in the Sligo Park Hotel on October 11. The group are currently trying to get in contact with past members from the local area to help contribute to their booklet.
