The Sligo Champion

Moffitts of Sligo serving the public since 1952

-

MOFFITTS of Sligo was established by the late Mr Leslie Moffitt. From a farming background in Blacklion Co. Cavan, Mr Moffitt went to work in the drapery trade before setting up his own business on Market Street, Sligo, in 1952.

In 1976, he took over J& R Good on O’Connell Street and this business grew and developed over the years under his management.

It is interesting to point out that this premises was previously occupied by G& R Moffatt in 1912 – note the different spelling – who were tailors and outfitters.

The premises is now run by Mr Moffitt’s son, Howard.

Next door Harte’s grocery ( 1981) and formerly O’Brien’s pub is now part of Moffitts.

Any old photographs of these buildings would be greatly appreciated by the Moffitt family. Good Timing Although schools have only recently closed for summer holidays, now is the ideal time to shop for school uniforms.
