Manager wants to mark home debut with victory

-

SLIGO ROVERS manager John Coleman wants to mark his home ‘ debut’ with a win.

Coleman guided Rovers to a 2- 1 victory over Drogheda in his first game in charge last Friday night.

Now, he wants the Bit O’Red to follow- up with another SSE Airtricity Premier win over Cork City- managed by former Summerhill College and City player, John Caulfield.

While much of the attention this week is focussed on Rovers Europa League First Round tie with FK Banga in Lithuania, Coleman knows the importance of the Cork match, which takes place on Sunday at 7pm.

Coleman said: “Yes, it was good to get the win in Drogheda. “I’m looking forward to the Cork City game. “It will be my first in charge at the Showgrounds and I want to get another win, as we do in all games. “The first home game for any new manager is important. “There should be a good atmosphere and I hope the fans are enthused. I promised the fans when I came they would see an attacking side, pressing the ball and on the front foot. That’s the way it will be.

“Cork are a good side and I know they have surprised a few people this season.”

When the teams last met in May, there were two late goals at Turner’s Cross.

Rovers went ahead in the 88th minute when a Joseph Ndo corner was turned into his own net by a City defender, but Cork got a penalty in added time to share the spoils.

Coleman said: “We have a big European game on Thursday, but then our attention will turn to Cork.

“It would be good to get a home win under us.”
