Aurivo says decision made for ‘ efficiency’
Aurivo Co- Op has given a statement to The Sligo Champion on the ongoing controversy over their decision to transfer the butter packaging operation from Achonry to Mitchelstown, Co. Cork.
Responding to the resolution passed by the Achonry Working Group, the Co- Op said they had noted the views and concerns of the Achonry Group.
The statement mentions efficiency as the main reason for the transfer.
“Aurivo has met the group on a number of occasions since the announcement and has agreed to meet the group again.
“While firmly rooted in and committed to the North West of Ireland, Aurivo is globally focused agribusiness exporting dairy products to over 50 countries globally.
“It is a diverse, highly sophisticated business, competing at the highest levels against very stiff business competition – nationally and internationally.
“For that reason, the business, if it is to grow and support its 700 strong workforce and maximise returns for its dairy farmers, must consistently look at ways of being more efficient; must consistently innovate its product range to add most value and how it produces that range.
“The Achonry site will continue as a national distribution hub for Aurivo Consumer Foods, while butter production continues in Aurivo’s Dairy Ingredients site in Ballaghaderreen.
“Progress of the transfer has recently been outlined to the Achonry Working Group by Aurivo management and Aurivo has agreed to work with the taskforce in finding addititional uses for the site post transfer,” the statement concluded.
The move will involve sending cream down to Cork by tanker from the North West and transporting it back up to Achonry for distribution.
