Nine pairs set to dance- off for St. Michael’s National School

-

Nestled at the foothills of the Ox Mountains, lies the ostensibly sleepy village of Cloonacool. Quiet and idyllic, this rural community has of late been gripped by a new frenzy.

No stranger to outstanding musicians and singers, the focus of the locals has in recent weeks shifted to their feet as “Cloonacool Come Dancing” hits the village sending life into disarray.

Nine local, brave couples have taken up the gauntlet of challenge laid down by the indomitable Belinda Henry.

The couples include Lucy Ross and Michael Cully, Sandra Rowley and Pat Taffe, Evelyn Wynne and Eddie Johnston, Joan Kirrane and James McCarrick, Lisa Maloney and Enda McCarrick, Lisa Walker and Billy Henry, Edel Haran and Ignatius Henry, Colette Toolan and Paul Kilcoyne, Teresa Quinn and Brian McIntyre.

Belinda proposed the event as a fundraiser for the local St. Michael’s N. S.

With the notion taking root, Belinda set about bringing it to life and with her boundless energy and enthusiasm, she now has the village buzzing to the sound of tapping, swirling, leaping and lapping as rehearsals take place in every available nook and cranny. Dance tutors include Belinda and Fintan Mullarkey both of whom are so patient, gracious and generous of time and care with the dancers. This gala event is scheduled for Saturday, 12th March in The Sligo Park Hotel, 8pm.

The evening is promised to be one of endless entertainment as the dancers execute a Waltz and Jive and their own “surprise” section. Master of Ceremonies will be the indubi- tably entertaining Mr Martin McIntyre, while the judging team comprises of the charming Maureen O’Dowd, the lovely Joan McGowan and the debonair Peadar Conway.

With over 300 tickets sold in the first week, the event is definitely one not to be missed.
