-

€ 40,000 has been presented by Aurivo Co- operative Society to Pieta House as part of the co- op’s charity of the year programme.

In 2015, Pieta House was the charity partner of choice and employees from across Aurivo’s diverse businesses organised a wide variety of events to raise much needed funds.

Everything from mini marathons, 5k runs and bike and hikes, to coffee mornings and golf classics were organised throughout the year in aid of Pieta. Many employees also participated in Pieta’s unique 4am Darkness into Light 5k across the Aurivo region last May, and An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny sold a sponsored heifer at Balla Mart, with all proceeds donated to Aurivo’s Pieta House fund.

Pieta House is a suicide and self- harm crisis centre, offering a confidential, free- of- charge counselling service. Pieta House West in Tuam opened its doors in 2013 to serve the people of Galway, Roscommon, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim, and the vision is to have a Pieta House centre within 100 kilometres of every citizen. Pieta House Donegal Action Group was established to bring a Pieta House service to County Donegal.

Speaking about the partnership with Aurivo, Pieta House CEO, Brian Higgins, said: “We were honoured when Aurivo chose us as their 2015 charity partner and we are delighted to be receiving € 40,000 for our life- saving work from this partnership. Partnership and co- operation form the backbone of the work we do and they are principles shared with Aurivo. To all the people who took part in and supported Aurivo’s fundraising activities for us in 2015 we owe a heartfelt thanks, the difference it will make in the lives of our clients is truly immeasurable.”

Previous good causes which benefited from Aurivo’s Charity of the Year initiative were Mayo/ Roscommon, North West, Galway and Donegal Hospices; Special Olympics; Crumlin Children’s Hospital; Cancer Care West; Autism Ireland; Cystic Fibrosis and the Alzheimer’s Association.
