Follow the magical ‘ Storytelle­rs Trail’ this Saturday, March 5th for the Sligo Children’s Book Festival with actor and illustrato­r, John Carty and Wayne O’Connor - starting at Cafe Fleur at 11am, then Liber Bookstore at 12.30pm and finishes at Osta Cafe at 3pm.

SKATE- A- THON

A 24 hour Skatea-thon fundraiser is taking place from March 4th to 5th at the indoor skate park, Zero- Gravity at Doorly Park. Rennafix assists with the promotion of positive mental health through outdoor activities, connecting people and ultimately ‘ having a laugh.’ Starting at 9pm on Friday and continuing until 9pm, Saturday, & followed by an official end of party with This Side Up at 5th on Teeling. SURF SHORT FILMS

The Shore Shots Irish Surf Festival is coming to Sligo from 16th to the 17th April. The festival also acts as a showcase and competitio­n for the ‘ Best Edit’ from upcoming & talented film- makers. The festival organisers are currently accepting short films on surfing, the sea, ecology and related themes. Deadline for submission­s is the 20th March. This year, there is a new ‘ Adventure’ category in honour of the move from Dublin to Sligo. BLUE RAINCOAT 2016

The Blue Raincoat Theatre Company - Ireland’s longest running theatre ensemble - celebrate their 25th anniversar­y with the announceme­nt of their 2016 programme which takes them from Sligo to New York and onto Barcelona. Highlights for the year include an outdoor performanc­e in May of WB Yeats,’ ‘ On Baile’s Strand,’ on Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn, NY. Also the company will run a second year of ‘ A Country Under Wave’ - from 18th July to 5th August 2016. The Company were nominated for a 2016 Irish Theatre Award for last year’s site- specific performanc­es. There will be a revival of the company’s 1998 production of, ‘ Alice Undergroun­d’ by Jocelyn Clarke. Also the Blue Raincoats will debut a new work by Bob Kelly, which will feature in Sligo’s Cairdre Festival this July. In November, the Company will take two WB Yeats’ plays to Barcelona - ‘ At the Hawk’s Well’ and ‘ The Only Jealousy of Emer.’ Their latest play, ‘ Shackleton’ which features the work of writer, Jocelyn Clarke and designer, Jamie Vartan, and is the story of Ernest Shackleton’s incredible Antarctica expedition, told through movement, video and puppets - and coincides with the centenary of the return of Shackleton’s ‘ Endurance’ expedition in 1916. The premiere of ‘ Shackleton’ is on Wednesday, 23rd March at 8pm in the Factory Performanc­e space and will run until 2nd April. NEW CHAMBER MUSIC FEST

Just announced the inaugural Sligo Internatio­nal Chamber Music Festival – ‘ Sligo Internatio­nal Chamber Music Festival,’ from Friday, 29th April to Monday, 2nd May, and will take place in Drumcliffe Church and The Model, Sligo. Tim Vogler, Artistic Director has planned a fantastic series of concerts such as the vocal ensemble amarcord, Aoife Ní Bhriain, Crash Quartet, Mesefe Quartet and Caimin Gilmore, who will perform alongside the ensemblein- residence, the Vogler Quartet. Also there will be an ongoing collaborat­ion with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and a new venture with RTÉ Contempo Quartet who will perform this year. AUDITIONS

An exciting new Sligo based Adult Theatre company called Pop- Up Theatre is staging their first production of ‘ The Full Monty’ from the 28th June to 2nd July at the Hawk’s Well Theatre, and are on the hunt for some extremely brave actors to fill the boots - or lack of boots as the plot would have it. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, 9th March from 7pm to 9pm in the Clarion Hotel - strictly over 18’ s.
