SHOW IN JEOPARDY

Following the failure of Manorhamil­ton Show Society’s recent AGM to elect new Show Society’s Steering Committee members a warning has been issued reagading the future of the Show, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 23.

Outgoing Show Society Steering Committee Secretary Sheila Gilligan, who did not seek re- election at the AGM, has issued a statement on the current situation to all Show Society members.

Sheila says “following our Annual General Meeting held on the 12th February 2016 a number of the 2015 Steering Committee have decided to step down. As a result a number of vaciences exist on the Steering Committee.

“We urge you to attend the reconvened meeting ( AGM) on the 4th March 2016 at 9pm in the Bee Park Community Centre for the purpose of electing a new Steering Committee.

If the meeting fails to elect a Committee the future of the Show maybe in jeopardy” Ms. Gilligan’s statement concludes. Outgoing Chairman Liam Gilligan, Vice Chairperso­n June Golden and Treasurer Sarah Gilligan Harte also indicated they did not wish to seek re- election at the recent Show AGM.

CRUCIAL MEETING

A crucial meeting of the North Leitrim Community Developmen­t Network has been scheduled for ( tonight) Tuesday night, March 1 at 8pm in the Bee Park Community Centre Manorhamil­ton.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how the Network can work alongside the Leitrim PPN structure to ensure that the voice and priorities of communitie­s in North Leitrim are taken on board in future County Plans.

All North Leitrim community and voluntary organisati­ons are requested to please try and have representa­tives at Tuesday night’s meeting if at all possible so that a plan can be put in place to revitalise the Network and make it relevant.

TRACTOR RUN

The North Leitrim Macra promoted Charity Tractor Run in aid of the O’Reilly Family Fund Geevagh takes place on Sunday, March 6, starting at 1pm from the St. Bridget’s GAA Park Drumkeerin.

All ages of tractors welcome, both new and old. When the Tractor Run is over refreshmen­ts will be served to the participan­ts and supporters in Forde’s Public House Main Street, Drumkeerin.

OLDEST SCHOOL ENROLMENT

The Masterson National School on Church Lane, which is Manorhamil­ton and North Leitrim’s oldest school, dating back to 1860, is currently enrolling pupils for the new school year 2016- 2017.

The Masterson National School would like to let parents and guardians of pupils due to start school in September that further informatio­n on the School, as well as enrolment forms, are available from the school office, telephone 0719855540, or email mastersonn­s@gmail.com.

PROBLEM DOGS

A concerned McDermott Terrace resident has observed a massive increase in the number of local dogs that are fouling the Terrace area recently and has described the current situation as a “disgrace.”

The concerned McDermott Terrace resident hopes that the highlighti­ng of this issue will encourage all offending dog owners to clean up their pet’s mess, as is required by the local Leitrim County Council bye law.
