No response yet to Mayor’s invite to Kerry hotelier

The Mayor of Sligo Municipal District has yet to receive a reply to the invitation she has extended to hotelier Francis Brennan to visit Sligo following his controversial remarks about the town.

Brennan cause major controversy last week when stating his “vision of Sligo was always outside the Post Office, 15 fellas smoking and collecting their dole. That’s my vision of Sligo because they wouldn’t work in a fit. They wouldn’t understand what we do in Kerry.”

In the aftermath of the remarks the Mayor ( right) sent a letter to Mr Brennan outlining what Sligo has to offer.

She wrote: “As you may be aware, the Wild Atlantic Way is increasing tourism numbers in every part of the west coast of Ireland, and, like Kerry, Sligo has also benefited from this fantastic initiative by Fáilte Ireland.

“We are continually growing the tourism products on offer within the county, and it is my belief that the determination and energies of the people of Sligo will continue to enhance what is one of the finest tourism offerings in Ireland.

“Each day, I see manifestations of how we punch above our weight in the North West when compared with other regions as the infrastructural development which has connected much of the country has failed to reach our county or region.

“I would be delighted to highlight to you the various experiences which Sligo can offer visitors and demonstrate how Sligo, Kerry and the other counties along the Wild Atlantic Way can successfully complement each other to the benefit of the visitor and Ireland.

If you would like to accept my offer please make contact, and I will gladly arrange for you to experience everything which Sligo has to offer.”
