Scenic Cloonacool 5km Race best place for ‘ Personal Bests’

-

If you’re looking for a good place to run a ‘ Personal Best’ this spring there’s no better place than Cloonacool.

The village is running its eighth annual GAA Road Race at midday on Sunday week February 12th.

“If you want a PB, it’s the place for PBs!” said organiser Mari Johnston.

“It’s a flat course with only one slight incline. People like it for that. Richard Gorman did a PB of just over 15 minutes there last year,” she said.

The race attracted over 300 people last year and Mari is hoping for similar numbers this year thanks to the ‘ Couch to 5k’ initiative.

“It’s a family day out too with music on the pitch,” she added.

The race will start just beyond the Community Pitch in Cloonacool, and run towards the village. Participants will turn at the Community Centre and run back.

“It’s a nice scenic route at the foot of the Ox Mountains. Runners, joggers and walkers are all welcome,” said Mari.

Entry on the day starts from 10: 30 at the GAA pitch and entry fees are € 10 for adults, € 5 for children and € 25 for a family.

There are changing and shower facilities available and refreshments afterwards.

This is a fast flat course, AAI permitted and Jones Counter Measured.

There will be cash prizes awarded for first three men, first three women, first local man, first local woman, first Secondary and first National School runner.
