Ed fans brave cold for tickets

ED Sheeran fans across the county were camping out overnight on Wednesday as they hoped to clinch much sought after tickets for the singer’s Dublin gigs.

The English singer last played in Dublin in August 2015, before taking a year long hiatus from performing.

Tickets for his two Dublin gigs went on sale at 10am on Thursday and sold out within minutes.

The queue outside Liber Bookshop started at 6am on Wednesday, with the line reaching as far as Knox Restaurant by lunch time.

People in the queue, mainly teenagers, were in good spirits throughout the day despite light rainfall.

A Ballymote group of Eimer Conlon, Kaelum Byrne, Shannon Scanlon and Dylan Martin joined the line at 11am.

“We’re queueing this early because we want to make sure that we get tickets,” they told The Sligo Champion.

The students, who are in fifth year and transition year, were confident that they would secure tickets.

“We think we’ll get the tickets anyway, we’ll have been out for nearly 24 hours waiting.

“Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end,” they said.

Oisin Geraghty and Seachlain O’Grady were queueing since 9am for tickets, and they said they didn’t even need to think about queueing overnight - it was always the plan.

“We know it’s going to be brilliant so we knew before he even announced the concert that we would queue like this.

“It’ll be great fun like a lot of our friends are going and we’ll all go up together on the bus.

“We’ve had a lot of people coming up to us asking what we’re queueing for and if we’re out for charity or something like that.”
