Holborn Street car plan gets planning permission
PLANNING has been granted by the County Council for a car park at one of Sligo’s oldest streets.
Permission was granted for a serious of changes affecting six houses on Holborn Street to allow for the retention and further alterations to the car park.
The development will consist of the retention of renovations and alterations made to existing dwellings No. 15 and No. 12, provision of access and egress to the rear car park; retention of use of land as a car park; permission for construction of proposed pedestrian ac- cess, the existing party wall be- tween house No. 15 and No. 67 is proposed to be repositioned to allow adequate room for vehi- cle and pedestrian movement, the first floor of No. 15 is to be combined with house No. 67 for residential use, the first floor of No. 12 is to be combined with No. 10 for residential use along with all associated ele- vation changes; permission for modification of footpath to al- low for entrance and exit access and permission for modifica- tion of the levels of the car park.
The street, which received its name in the middle of the 15th Century once was home to a British Army barracks and the father of late comedian, Spike Milligan, Leo was born at number 5. The planning application was originally made back in March 2015. A car park has been operating at the site for some time and there is a daily charge for users.
