SPRING League THE PD Golf sponsored Spring League continued this week with overnight frost delaying action on Sunday for the second week running. BEGINNING with the first group the biggest movers were Peggy Feely and Kevin O’Connor who had a 5 hole win over their opponents which leaves them in second place behind Shane Loftus & Regina McLoughlin. IN group two, Paul Connolly & Seth Meredith now lead the way after having overtaken Jim Dwyer & Tommy King who now lie in second position. MOVING to group three, Vincent Egan and Lewis Shaw remain in poll position despite taking a break this week! Pat Conroy & Susan O’Mahoney stay in second place but have closed the gap to two holes. IN the fourth group, pairs five and six, namely Michael Rush/ Gerry O’Hara and Paddy McLoughlin/ Mandy Toolan are currently jostling for the top spot with the former holding the upper hand by one hole. OTHER Result THE weekly 9 hole stableford competitio­n was won by Michael Rush with 20 points. FIXTURES THE Spring League enters week number four this week with the schedule of matches for the fourth round as follows: Pairs 1 vs 4, 3 vs 5 and 2 vs 6. THE weekly 9 hole stableford is playable Monday- Sunday inclusive. CONDOLENCE­S THE club extends its sympathies to the McLoughlin family on the recent passing of Margaret. FRIDAY Open Stableford FRIDAY’S 15 Hole Open Stableford saw some quality golf and produced the best scores of the year so far at Strandhill Golf Club. RORY O’Connor took first place on the day with an exceptiona­l score of 40 points for 15 holes. Rory scored a total of eight pars over his fifteen hole with four on the front nine and the remaining four on the back six but it was the impressive return of birdies and an eagle that made the round exceptiona­l. RORY added six birdies on the first, third, fourth, seventh, eleventh and thirteenth holes as well as sinking a putt for eagle on the par five fifth to record his winning score of 40 points. SECOND place was taken by Eamon McCafferty with 34 points, a score that would have been good enough to secure victory on any other day. Martin scored a total of nine pars over the course of his fifteen holes with five on the front nine and the remaining four on the back six to complete his round with a score of 34 points. 1ST Rory O’Connor 2nd Eamon McCafferty ( 11) 34pts CAPTAIN’S Drive In CAPTAIN’S Sheila McCrann and Leo McNally held their Captain’s Drive In on a cool, blustery Saturday and members turned out in force to help them celebrate their day and to compete in the competitio­n. TWENTY four teams in total contested for this year’s prize and some exceptiona­l scores were returned. EVERYONE joined Sheila & Leo to enjoy lunch and a few drinks in the bar and for the presentati­on afterwards. Tony put together a round consisting of eight pars with six on the front nine and the remaining two on the back six to take first place with a score of 34 points. 1ST Tony Ballantyne ( 13) 34pts PET Stop Discount Warehouse Mixed League – Week Two WEEK two of the Pet Stop Discount Warehouse Mixed League took place on Sunday in ideal conditions for golf and the standard of golf was very high. The groups are starting to take shape now with only one more week in the group stages left to play. THE third and final match of the group stages will take place on Sunday February 26th with the 18 hole final scheduled for March 12th.
