College plays a vital role in re- generation of south Sligo region
North Connaught College is helping those in the local area to learn all the do’s and don’ts of employment by hosting an ‘ Into Employment Week’
Running all this week, from Monday the 6th to Friday the 10th February the event will host a number of Guest speakers from industry, Universities, Institutes of Technologies and employers will give presentations throughout the week in careers such as administration, beauty therapy, child care, community development, healthcare, hospitality, nursing, and security.
Members of the public who are interested in learning more about how to apply for jobs, access courses to higher education or who want to brush up on their interview skills, are welcome to attend the sessions.
Principal of North Connaught College, Margaret Scollan explained the importance behind employment week: “We work with adults here on a variety of courses and see the desire of so many to get a job, support their family and get active in their local area, but it’s really difficult to stay positive and keep trying.
“Into Employment week aims to help people be as well prepared as they can to move into employment. Our courses help develop skills and provide a qualification but in this week we are going to focus on all the other things that make a difference to getting a job”.
Teacher, Kate Jordan, organiser of the week’s schedule has invited local employers to share information in what they look for in future employees, who and how they decide to hire.
“We invite all interested members of the community to these talks because it is a great opportunity locally to have the expertise of all the speakers available in Tubbercurry.
“You can bring your CV for some advice, learn how to stand out at interviews and hear about supports with starting a business plus much more!”
“There is a real energy around to develop the town and jobs are so important to this.
“Maybe there are people living locally who could, with the right skills and support, start an enterprise that might grow to replace some of the jobs recently lost.” said Principal Scollan.
“We would like to think the college has a role to play in this local Re- Generation and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the talks.” she added.
Anything from security work to childcare, beauty therapy to starting your own business all will be covered by the experts. For more information please contact the college for times of sessions on: 071- 9185035.
