VOLUNTEERING IN UGANDA
Local girl Aine Durkin plans to return as a qualified nurse to Kisissi Hospital, Uganda where as a student nurse she worked and lived for four weeks as a volunteer in 2015 experiencing at first hand the benefits of fundraising by volunteers including herself, providing services to children suffering various illnesses, building chicken coops to combat malnutrition in the community and financing the purchasing of much needed equipment for the hospital overseas.
A very enjoyable Irish night was held in Moylough Arts and Hertiage Cente on Sunday last to launch her fundraising campaign. Local musicians and singers volunteered their talents, they included Fr James McDonagh, Harry McGowan, Chris Stapleton, Colm O’Donnell, Mary Frain, Maeve O’Dowd, Antoinette Beirne, Keith and Adrain Frain, Ronan McDonagh, Kieran Lundy, Brian Kirkpatrick.
Speaking of her experience Aine portrayed her enthusiasm for the development of Kisissi hospital and the projects supported by donations of local communities for which she was deeply grateful and honoured to share her talents with people in urgent need of medical and nutritional supports, she thanked everyone for their generous support of a successful music night.
MC Michael Fleming thanked all the musicians for a very successful night and wished Aine safe travelling and success with a project. A hamper sponsored by Mary Davey was won by Conor McDonagh.
