ST JOHN’S

MICHAEL McGowan RIP THE St Johns club and the communities of Ferndale, Carraroe and Curry were shocked last Wednesday when news came of the untimely and tragic death of Michael Mc Gowan. Michael was a gentle giant of a man who was described by a neighbour as “the Mayor of Ferndale” – when something needed doing Michael led the way and achieved results. He was a loyal supporter of St Johns for whom his son Brian starred but he also had great time for his native Curry and for all Sligo county teams. He began coaching in our club with an Under 9 team and achieved immediate success when his charges won the City Board League. Over the years he has contributed greatly to the club and his witty comments along the side- line will be sadly missed. The esteem in which he was held was very visible in the large numbers who attended his reposing and the Mass of Resurrection in St John’s Church, Carraroe on Saturday and by the Guards of Honour provided by the St John’s and Curry clubs and also his work colleagues from Aurivo. To Michael’s wife Ann, son Brian, daughters Laura and Chloe, his sisters, brothers and relatives we extend our heart- felt sympathy. Ar dheis De go raibh se.
