PAYOUT FOR SOURCE STAFF AFTER A TWO YEARWAIT

-

A businessman has apologised for the delay in making payments to two former employees who were awarded sums after taking cases to the Employment Appeals Tribunal.

Former owner of the Source restaurant at John Street, which closed in September 2013, Ray Monahan in a statement acknowledged that awards made by the tribunal to Claudine Harnesse and Stuart Skeffington were outstanding.

“The awards will now be paid in full to Claudine and Stuart. I apologise to Claudine and to Stuart for the delay in paying these Employment Appeals Tribunal awards and for the inconvenience this may have caused them,” he said.

The issue had been raised by Ms Harnesse on RTE radio’s Liveline Show.

Ms Harnesse told host Joe Duffy that she had been employed as a head waitress at Source in 2010 and was told in 2013 that she was being dismissed.

She claimed: “I was told that John Monahan was taking over the business and wanted a fresh face and I was no longer required. I was told on Wednesday that Saturday would be my last day. Claudine took a case to the EAT in 2014 and filed a case for unfair dismissal. There was no appearance by or on behalf of Mr Monahan. The tribunal awarded Ms Harnesse € 16, 340 on the basis of unfair dismissal in July 2014.

The matter was debated on Liveline for two days with Mr Monahan contacting the show on the second day stating that the award to Ms Harnesse would be paid and also in another case, that of Mr Skeffington which had also come to light.
