-

TWO Sligo lecturers got a very special invite last week - to attend a UNESCO forum on global citizenship Education in Canada. Amanda McCloat, and Helen Maguire from the Home Economics department of St. Angela’s said they were delighted with the invite.

Amanda added: “It is very prestigious to have secured this invitation from UNESCO, based on our expertise in the field of Home Economics and Education for Sustainable Development.” The UNESCO Week will place an overall focus on teachers and teacher education, with sessions highlighting best practices in this area. The event will emphasise the practical aspects and implementation of Education for Sustainable Development ( ESD) and Global Citizenship Education.

Helen said: “While we already incorporate sustainable theories and practices in the Bachelor of Arts ( Education, Home Economics and second subject) programmes and the Professional Masters in Education ( with Home Economics) this experience will further enhance our awareness and potential in this regard.”
