Sligo junior clubs in Connacht action

THE first rounds of the T. P. Brennan Connacht Cup took place this weekend with plenty of clubs in action. Ballisodar­e United welcomed Salthill Devon to Union and what a game it was.

Teenager Rolly Anderson hit the back of the Salthill net after only two minutes to set the stage for a remarkable performanc­e from the Boys of Ballisodar­e. Salthill Devon fought back but on 62 minutes - Niall Howley played a gem of a cross into goal poacher supreme Andrew Patton who hung the ball high into the Salthill goals to earn a great win for a classy Ballisodar­e United.

Aughanagh Celtic hosted Mayo league side Swinford and won by three goals to one courtesy of strikes from Dermot Beggan Sean Carty and Thomas Cryan. Swinford scored once through Alan Carr.

Carbury FC entertaine­d Ballyglass and Carbury emerged winners by the odd goal in three.

Gary Finan and Keith Carty had Carbury two goals up. Dylan Hughes pulled one back for Ballyglass to make it a nail biting finish but Carbury held on for a fine victory.

St Johns travelled to Colemansto­wn and lost by four goals to one in an exciting game where Colin Feehily scored from the penalty spot but St Johns also managed to miss two more penalties - a tough day at the office.

St Bernard’s of Galway had an exciting game with Strand Celtic ending all square on two goals each after extra time and St Bernard’s won the dreaded penalty shootout.

Boyle Celtic won by the odd goal in five at home to Mayo Kingpins Manulla. Michael Corrigan, Thomas Lavin and Niall Brennan were all on target for Boyle.

The first rounds of the T. P. Brennan Connacht Shield also took centre stage this weekend.

The big clash of the day was Ballygawle­y Celtic at home to neighbours and arch rivals Arrow Harps.

Ryan Walsh emerged the hero of the day with the only goal of the game sixteen minutes from time to give Ballygawle­y Celtic the bragging rights as they march on.

Real Tubber journeyed to take on North Sligo Kingpins Cliffoney Celtic and it was a rewarding trip fore the Tubber Boys. Two goals from Aaron Murtagh and one each from Martin Mulvaney and Dermot Walsh sealed victory for a Tubber side on fire. Cliffoney scored twice with a goal each from Alan Harrison and Christy Keaney.

East United of Galway were disporsed of by Chaffpool United with a double strike from Darragh Kelly and a third from Christy Madden.

Dromore Villa crashed out by five goals to nil at home to CS Mac Dara.

MCR left it late down a goal with five minutes left on the clock at home in Sean Fallon Park to Loughrea B it looked all over. They were awarded a penalty that Stephen Hallahan dispatched to give MCR a way back.

Then in injury time the ever alert Andrew Tiernan snatched the winner for yet another dramatic win for MCR.
