Minor league campaign underway this Saturday

The County Sligo Surf Club are holding a Junior open surf league for club members. With the stretch in the evening, this series of fun surf events are aimed at keeping young surfers stoked this winter and improving their skills.

There are U8, U10 U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions for males and female to compete. The entry fee is € 2 per category and entrants can enter as many categories as they like.

On February 4th , the third competitio­n of the season was held at Streedagh Beach in picturesqu­e conditions.

A healthy turn out of local competitor­s ranging in ages from 6 to 17 were greated with sunny weather and ideal waves. In the U8 boys Zav Heffernan took first place and Cathal Deery took first in the U10 boys SLIGO will get their Connacht Minor League campaign underway this Saturday when they take on Longford in the opening round.

The Yeats County - who last won the competitio­n in 2015 – are under the stewardshi­p of David Cummins for the second successive year and will play five games over the course of the next The National Cross Country Championsh­ips took place over the weekend at Waterford IT arena, Carriganor­e.

There was a big field in it and a very tough course. In the first race Corran AC’s very own Sara Doohan pipped for two months.

A month’s break follows Saturday’s game, with Sligo resuming their campaign on March 16th against Roscommon.

Sligo’s only away game of the series is in the final round against Galway. throw- in time and a venue will be confirmed for Saturday’s clash during the week. 2nd place overall but Sara got gold in o35 category in masters xcountry in Waterford and 2nd place overall. Sara was glad leaving the Baltic east coast with and another victory behind her. Looks like 2017 will be Sara’s year.
