Launch of Club Sligo 2017 Club Sligo 2017, which supports Sligo GAA, was launched on Friday evening and those who wish to become Club Sligo members for the 2017- 2019 term are asked to sign up now with their Club.

Membership starts at € 250 and the names of those who have contribute­d will be displayed prominentl­y at the Centre of Excellence in Scarden.

A new training, warm- up section has just been completed and the surfacing of the car park area is due to start soon.

The Club Sligo scheme has ensured that the facility at Scarden has been completed on- time and to a high specificat­ion.

An added bonus for clubs this year is that those units that achieve Club Sligo membership sales in excess of € 7500 will receive a set of O’Neill’s jerseys. U21 fundraiser The U21 football panel recently held a fundraiser and first prize of € 250 went to Michael Currid from the Grange area while Michael McDermott from Eastern Harps club got second prize of € 150 and Natasha Jackson also from the Harps club picked up third place and € 100. Cumann Iománíocht Naomh Eoin. Noamh Eoin Hurling Club were table quiz representa­tives in the All- Ireland finals last Saturday in the Waterfront Belfast. The Scór Sinsir Competitio­ns and Quiz will take place on Saturday 11th of March; venue and time to be confirmed. Coaching update The Award 1 course starts in Curry on February 17th from 7- 10pm. It continues February 18th from 10- 3pm and February 25th from 10- 3pm. The cost is € 50. A coaching workshop for youth coaches in Tourlestra­ne is taking place on February 16th from 7- 8.30pm on creating scoring chances by making the right decisions. Mayo inter- county player Andy Moran is taking the workshop.

IT Sligo coaches are currently carrying out their award 1 coaching course in preparatio­n for starting in schools on February 27th. GAA Amigos The regional finals of the primary school GAAmigos skills competitio­n for North division took place this week in Summerhill. Well done to all schools involved. Congrats to Moylough who won south division boys and both Bunninadde­n and Drimina who were joint winners of girls. Best of luck to Coola, Summerhill and St . Attracta’s who are all out in junior championsh­ip this week. Hurling initiative Last month saw Sligo and Leitrim combine a hurling foundation course held in Sligo’s Centre of Excellence. The course was led by Shane Curley and Michael Carroll both from Roscommon. Over 20 people attended on the night with a lot of young members on the course. It’s great to see a big interest from young people who want to get into coaching. Benny Kenny, Hurling GPO, hopes to run a hurling award 1 course in the next few weeks. Healthy Clubs Roadshow The GAA Healthy Clubs Roadshow took place on the 4th February in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence at Ballyhauni­s. Several clubs and county health and wellbeing committee members attended to learn what Healthy Clubs in the province are doing to support communitie­s in pursuit of better physical, social, and mental wellbeing. Responding to identified needs among their membership­s and communitie­s, the clubs are engaged in health promoting campaigns and programmes addressing such interestin­g and important topics. These include healthy eating, smoke- free clubs, emotional wellbeing and mental fitness, physical activity opportunit­ies for non- playing members, engaging older community members and youth developmen­t. Also included is gambling, drug, and alcohol awareness, heart health, suicide awareness, and even blood donation. Training for Club Health and wellbeing officers will take place on the 27th of February in Scarden.
