Sligo athletes take on 50km in Donadea
The beautiful, but bitterly cold, surrounds of Donadea Forest Park in Co. Kildare, Ireland was the venue for the annual Donadea 50KM race. This race is an IAU Bronze Label race and is the Irish 50KM National Championships.
The mens race was very competitive but the overall winner was Brian McMahon from Clonliffe Harriers in 3: 11: 26. Brian is no stranger to Sligo as he a double winner of the Warriors Run.
North Sligo’s Donal Egan was 14th in 3: 44. Sligo AC runner David Kearins was making his 50K debut and finished 15th in 3: 47 and 2nd F45. Paul Higgins, though no stranger to ultra marathons, was also debuting in Donadea and he ran 4: 09. Another athlete on her maiden 50K was Aishling Kennedy and she ran a super 4: 44.
Meanwhile, in the National Juvenile B cross country held in Waterford, Sligo AC’s Michael Morgan was 2nd in the U15 Boys race.
His sister Ailbhe was 4th in the U17 Girls race.
