Residents’ fears over anti- social behaviour in housing estate

-

Residents of a private housing estate in Tubbercurry are claiming to be “frightened and angry” at the recent rise in anti- social behaviour.

The Sligo Champion understands that the residents’ concerns centre around speeding cars and unsupervised children running amok throughout the estate.

Cllr Thomas Healy has been involved in talks between Parklands Residents Association and Sligo Traveller Group in a bid to resolve the issue.

Two meetings were held before Christmas and a third meeting was understood to have been held last Thursday 9th February.

“Residents are concerned about the speeding of cars into the estate and kids of all ages running around unsu- pervised,” said Cllr Healy.

“People have safety concerns. We’re trying to resolve it but there’s only so much you can do at meetings. There’s been no change in the anti- social behaviour,” said Cllr Healy.

There was also a Community Garda at the meetings.

Spokesperson for Sligo Traveller Group Bernadette Comiskey said she knew nothing about any anti- social behaviour in the estate and refused to comment further.

“We all need to sit down and come up with solutions,” said Cllr Healy.
