HIS goal against Holland to send Ireland through to the last 16 of the 1990 World Cup remains in the memory of Irish fans who were fortunate enough to be around for it.

Niall Quinn’s exploits in the green jersey of the Republic of Ireland mean that he is a hero to those who worship their country’s sportsmen.

You could very well get an opportunit­y to meet the Irish legend this March as he will be a special guest at the Sligo Sports Awards.

Former Sunderland, Manchester City and Arsenal player Quinn will be coming to Sligo on March 9th, where he will attend the prestigiou­s awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The event kicks off at 2pm, and tickets cost € 28.

There has been a huge interest in the event, with an unpreceden­ted number of nomination­s received for each category.

Categories covered on the day are as follows: Senior Sportsman of The Year, Senior Sportswoma­n of The Year, Juvenile Sportsman of The Year, Juvenile Sportswoma­n of The Year, Men’s Team of The Year, Ladies Team of the Year, Juvenile Men’s Team of the Year, Juvenile Ladies Team of the Year, Manager/ Coach of the Year, Community Participat­ion Initiative, Sports Disability Award and Volunteer of The Year.

Nomination­s for awards have now closed.
