GOLF Tourism entrepreneur Aidan Doyle has been announced as the new CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce.
He replaces Paul Keyes who left the position last November to join the UN in the Congo.
Aidan Doyle picked up the reins at the Chamber on his first day yesterday ( Monday).
“I’m excited and honoured to lead Sligo Chamber. I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to promote the Chamber and Sligo,” Aidan told The Sligo Champion.
“There are a number of issues to tackle - Sligo Chamber is an integral part of the county’s economic development and I’m looking forward to all parties working together for the betterment of Sligo,” he said.
The Larkhill Road native said the N4 and Tourism are two of the most important issues facing Sligo in his tenure.
“Tourism is an area where I see we have good growth and we have a good brand in the Wild Atlantic Way. I would like to explore that more. Other counties have been very successful and I’d like to help develop that for the county and the region,” he said.
Welcoming the announcement, Chamber President Des Faul said: “I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new team member to Sligo Chamber of Commerce, Aidan Doyle.”
The Sligo native has extensive experience in business having held management roles within Bank of Ireland and the Rabbo Banking Group in Cork and Sligo for over 25 years.
In more recent times, using his extensive business experience together with his passion for golf, Aidan has worked in the Tourism Sector and is a co- founder of the successful company Dream Links Golf.
It specialises in attracting overseas golfers to the Sligo region focusing on the connoisseur golfer and the corporate market.
With his business experience, keen interest in tourism and his love of all things Sligo, Aidan looks forward to working with all stakeholders in order to help Sligo grow.
“I have experience in business through my banking career and most recently in tourism where I’ve been promoting Sligo overseas, particularly in the UK and now the US,” said Aidan.
He says he can bring his awareness of “where Sligo is at” and what we have to offer to his new role.
“It’s the use of Knock airport and direct flights to the UK/ Bristol areas - these are areas we’d like to develop,” he said.
“I’m also looking forward to reaching out to the Chamber members and to make a positive difference in the growth and prosperity of Sligo and all its communities,” he added.
Aidan is a native of Sligo town and was educated in Summerhill College and IT Sligo. His Dream Links Golf company offers connoisseur golf tours of Sligo and the North West. He has a son and a daughter and lives in Rosses Point since his return to Sligo in 2006.
