Farmer left sheep carcasses in a trailer

-

A farmer has admitted to leaving sheep carcasses parked in a trailer in the Gleniff Horseshoe area for up to two weeks.

Hugh Gilmartin ( 44) of Mullinfad, Ballintrillick, pleaded guilty to leaving the carcasses remain unburied at Gleniff, Ballintrillick on April 25th 2016. Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said the matter came to the Garda’s attention after complaints from the public about “a bad smell.”

Ms Elaine Toghill, defending, pointed out that Gilmartin was actually on his way to the Knackery towing the trailer when he was stopped by Gardaí who called in Garda forensics and the Department Vet. Gilmartin told the court that a young dog had frightened his hoggets in a pen, causing them to smother and die. “I was on serious medication for a spinal injury and I forgot. I had them covered. I apologise unreservedly,” he told the court.

Judge Kevin Kilrane adjourned the case to March 16th to allow Gilmartin make a ¤ 300 contribution to a charity.
