OWENMORE GAELS

The club is deeply saddened to have learned of the recent passing of Robbie Nicholson, Gleann, Collooney. Sympathies are extended to his wife Carmel, sons Trevor, Aaron and Colm. daughters Marina, Cora and Shona. Robbie’s brothers art, Richie, James and his sister Catherine. The Nicholson family have been heavily involved in Owenmore Gaels for many years with all of Robbie’s son’s playing underage for the club. Aaron continues to play with our Men’s team and is one of the senior member’s of the squad. Art was club chairperson for a number of years. The club extends its deepest sympathies.

Well done to the Owenmore Gaels Quiz Team ‘ Pole Position’ who beat Enniscrone- Kilglass in Oceanfm club quiz recently in Connolly’s bar. They are now through to the quarter- final which will be held in the near future. The quiz team members are Jonathan Davey, Niall Walsh and Gavin Phelan.

The senior team continues training this Tuesday. Any new interested players, please contact Conor at 086 1764919.

The club have appointed managers at underage levels but require some more, particularly at under- eight level. We would encourage parents or anybody interested to put themselves forward as without coaches we cannot have teams.

Registration will take place towards end of month, more details next week or stay tuned to Facebook page.

Plans for our new stand are complete and displayed in clubhouse. We are now in the planning permission stage. Anybody willing to join the fundraising drive with € 20 per month for one year please contact Niall 087 7609420.

The club is delighted to announce that we have obtained a new defibrillator to be kept at the clubhouse. A massive thanks to Allen Banks of Cullens Bar for sponsoring the full price the defib, coming in at € 1,000. An extremely generous donation to the club and to the wider community of Collooney. The defibrillator is currently located in the first aid room in the clubhouse. The defib will be the property of Owenmore Gaels, it is for the entire community should its services be required. It is our wish to store the unit outside the clubhouse so it can be accessed at any time in case of emergency. To do this a special temperature controlled box needs to be purchased. This box costs € 520 + VAT and will need to be installed and power ran to it. To fundraise for the defib box, we intend to hold a raffle on our Owenmore Gaels Operation Transformation night out in Cullens Bar on February 25. More info on the raffle will be announced in the coming days. We greatly appreciate all support for this in terms of tickets purchased and prizes donated.

The lotto draw took place in Connollys Bar on Monday, February 6. The numbers drawn were 10, 13, 15 and 17. There was no winner of the € 5,800 jackpot. Congratulations to our ‘ Match 3’ winners Helena Lavin and Damien Gallagher, who each win € 50. As there was no winner this week, the jackpot rolls over to € 5,900. The next draw was scheduled to take place last night Cullen’s Bar. Details to follow.
