Athlone come from behind twice to hold Rovers to draw

SLIGO ROVERS ATHLONE TOWN 2 2 COLIN Fortune’s Athlone Town twice came from behind to snatch a draw with Sligo Rovers at The Showground­s on Sunday evening.

Jonah Ayunga put the Bit o’Red ahead after 13 minutes. A stunning chipped pass from Liam Martin found Regan Donelon on the left, the left back crossed in for Ayunga who hit it into the back of the net.

Athlone Town clawed their way back into the game on 42 courtesy of a John Mahon own goal, but Rovers were ahead again seconds before the half- time whistle.

Jack Keaney, who was impressive on the night, sent his corner towards the box, and the head of Chris Kenny sent it goalwards.

With seven minutes left on the clock Athlone levelled proceeding­s with a header from Sfrijan making it 2- 2, and therefore concluding Rovers’ pre- season campaign for 2017.
