Carrick overcome Tubber U14s

- BY TINA BEIRNE

REAL TUBBER U14S CARRICK TOWN U14S 4 5 FOR the few hardy souls who braved the biting cold to stand at the Showgrounds astro and watch this – bravo to you for witnessing a truly honest end to end game. IT was hard to look away even for a few moments as this absorbing contest was nip tuck right to the end.

Real Tubber had to change keepers before this fixture – Conor Matthews took on the task and certainly merited his place – they looked comfortable and with an ace up front in the shape of Sean Kerrigan who showed some wonderful skills with the ball – it looked like it could be Tubber’s Day.

Try as they might – they simply could not shake off a well organised and resilient Carrick side who were figuring that this also could be their day.

Dara and Keith Feeley were instrumental in midfield for Tubber and always looked to find the pacey Kerrigan who had John Troy and Tony Marren supporting him.

However Carrick had Rory O Donnell and the energetic midfielder Carlos de Lusson and Captain fantastic Cormac White to thank for their belief and their goals.

The game had everything – great defending – great attacking – poor defending – poor decision making – a penalty to name but some.

The turning point for the writer was at the start of the second half when Carrick capitalised on some uncertain defending by Real Tubber to find the net to take the lead.

To their credit – Real came back and equalised but Carrick were on the offensive and had their tales up.

It was Evan Foley and Rory Kelly and Evan Corcoran who ensured no way through for the goal machine Kerrigan.

Credit to both teams and coaches for a great entertaining game which Carrick just nicked to take all three points.
