CURRENT demand for Irish timber is very Strong and is exceeding supply. The anticipated growth in the requirement for woody biomass for the renewable sector means that more lands needs to be planted to satisfy this demand.

Forestry plays a significant role in contributing environmentally and economically to rural Ireland and accordingly has the continued support and confidence of the Irish Government through state aid and tax relief.

Forestry income namely forestry premium and income from the sale of timber is income tax exempt. Forest owners to clear fell their woods which can realise revenue of € 8K to € 10k per acre without liability to income tax.

Attractive premium figures of € 510 for conifers up to € 615 for broadleaves are paid annually for 15 years. All landowners including farmers that have retired can avail of these premiums.

Farm entitlements can continue to be claimed along with the forestry premium provided that the land is classed as eligible land.

There is a strong demand at the moment for semi - mature plantations so forest owners can readily sell their plantation. Contact below if require information Hugo McCormick – Tel No: 086 259 2651 Email: hmccormick@ greenbelt. ie
