A man who broke into a Ballymote college has been convicted after leaving a bloody palm print at the scene of the crime.

Michael Clarke ( 20) of Hillview Drive, Ballymote, was charged with trespassin­g at Corran College, theft of a Gigi hand held landline phone, ¤ 15 in change and smashing a window causing ¤ 167.07 worth of damage on the weekend of May 6- 9 2016.

Inspector Donal Sweeney told the court that a palm print was left in blood on the smashed window pane.

When confronted by Gardaí, Clarke is alleged to have said he was “often off his head but didn’t know what he had done.” “He accepted his palm print was found at the scene,” said the inspector. Judge Kilrane remanded Clarke on continuing bail to Tubbercurr­y District Court on March 22nd for the preparatio­n of a Probation Report.
