Council to review traffic flow and footpaths in Carney village

-

TRAFFIC flow and footpaths through the village of Carney is to be completely reviewed by the Council.

It’s on foot of two motions by Cllr Seamus Kilgannon and Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady asking for traffic calming at the turn off for Maugherow and a footpath in Carney village respectively.

Cllr Kilgannon said the traffic coming from Grange direction was “a major accident waiting to happen.”

“Certainly some kind of signage could go up ion a temporary basis. It would help avoid a crash. At least it would let people know that the Council have taken a good interest in it,” he said.

Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady said she would welcome a complete review of the village to see where it could be enhanced “would be a better day’s work.”

“I know it doesn’t solve the immediate concerns of parents who have children getting off buses,” she said.

Senior Engineer Tom Brennan said that following the review a schedule of works would be prepared containing traffic calming proposals, footpath improvements etc. Funds would have to be sought for the works he added.
