Ballymote nursing home must proceed without any delay
Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo- Leitrim Eamon Scanlon says work on the extension to the Ballymote Community Nursing home must begin without delay.
Construction on the site is due to get underway in the latter part of this year with the new unit set to open in mid- 2018.
Deputy Scanlon said: “I welcome confirmation from the HSE that this essential project is due to begin later this year.
“I have been highlighting the importance of this extension for some time, and one this work is completed it will provide much needed additional beds for older people in the Sligo region.
“Fianna Fáil has consistently emphasised the importance of step down and nursing home care in the community.
“It allows people to receive the care and treatment they need, while still remaining near their family.
“These extra beds will also relieve the pressure on capacity in Sligo University Hospital.
“We need to ensure that the tender process proceeds without delay so that work on this extension begins on time and is carefully managed so that the project can be completed by the 2018 deadline. This additional capacity is badly needed and I am urging the HSE to ensure that these works are prioritised so that the extension can be delivered on schedule,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
