Juvenile Ladies Team of the Year: Ursuline College U14s
THEY made history by winning the Bank of Ireland FAI Schools First Year Championship in 2016 and went on to a major competition in the UK which they narrowly missed out on winning the top prize.
The Ursuline College cemented itself as a school to be reckoned with when it comes to soccer in 2016.
The school from the Northwest showed the rest of the country this group of talented players meant business. The Ursuline College U14s were also the Futsal Sligo County Champions 2016, Futsal Connacht Champions, Connacht ‘ A’ Schools Soccer Champions and topped off a tremendous year by winning the All- Ireland ‘ A’ Schools Soccer final. The group of girls have been great ambassadors for both their school and county, winning gold at county, Provincial and National level in the past year. This historic victory ensured that Ursuline College were the first female representative side to ever compete for FAI Schools in the Rod Houston Cup.
This competition was held in Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire, England.
This was a unique, once- in- alifetime opportunity for the Ursuline girls to showcase their talents at international level.
Two successful victories over the Welsh and English representatives saw the Ursuline girls claim silver medals.
They lost on on the gold posi- tion by the narrowest of margins to the overall English champions.
Manager of the side, Deirdre Cullinan said the team deserve great credit for their achievements, adding they were a brilliant bunch.
