All set for Yeats Tour of Sligo

The upcoming Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo ( May Bank holiday weekend) is part of the 2017 Sport Ireland Cycle Series taking place across the country. The Sligo Champion is the official media sponsor of the Sligo cycle. Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, TD launched the 2017 Sport Ireland Cycle Series. Celebratin­g its ninth year, the Sport Ireland Cycle Series encourages people of all fitness levels to get physically active with various cycling events across the country between May and September. Speaking at the launch, John Treacy, CEO of Sport Ireland and a regular cyclist in the Sligo event explained: “We are delighted to be bringing the Sport Ireland Cycle Series around the country for the summer. I would encourage everyone, no matter what your ability of cycling to take part.”

The Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo is the first event in the series and is happening over the May Bank Holiday weekend. A Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday 29th April which will include the 10km Spin for All, and 2km Bike Trail while on Sunday 30th April the more experience­d cyclists will have three events to choose from including a 60km, 100km and 160km route. The 60km Tour of Lough Gill is geared towards the leisure cyclist and those relatively new to the sport. In order support those who may be getting into cycling for the first time Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnershi­p is organising an upcoming Sofa to Saddle programme in conjunctio­n with Bike for Life. This programme will consist of six weekly cycling sessions with the support of an experience cycling coach. For informatio­n check out www. tourofslig­o. ie or contact 071 9161511.
