Bord na nÓg Awards There was a large crowd in Coolera House for the annual Bord na nÓg awards. Medals were presented to the under 16 and minor boys who were runners- up in the championsh­ip, and to the under 14 and minor girls who were also runners- up in the championsh­ip. The under 12 girls were presented with their league and championsh­ip medals having won both in what was a very successful year. Our special guest was Mayo goalkeeper and All- Star David Clarke, and it was great to have our own senior county player Keelan Kawley also present. The under 12 hurling awards went to Tadhg Doggett who was the most improved and Rory Kinane who was hurler of the year. Most improved footballer­s were Ciaran Langan ( U/ 12), Ryan Young ( U/ 14), Jack Molloy ( U/ 16) and Seán Wynne ( minor), while the Footballer of the Year awards went to Donncha Beirne ( U/ 12), Oran McDonagh ( U/ 14), Eoin McCormack ( U/ 16) and Eoin Macken ( minor). The most improved ladies footballer­s were Tara Peacock ( U/ 12), Eilis Burke ( U/ 14), Eimear McCallion ( U/ 16) and Sarah Lindsay ( minor). Cliodhna O’Sullivan was the U/ 12 player of the year, Beibhinn Harte won the award for U/ 14, Attracta Halloran was the U/ 16 recipient and Caoimhe O’ Sullivan was minor player of the year. Club Chairperso­n Philip Maree, in expressing the club’s gratitude to David Clarke, brought the formalitie­s to an end with a presentati­on of Breeogue Pottery to our guest. Sympathy We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Petie Kilfeather who died recently. Petie was a former player and member of the club and he will be sadly missed by all, but especially his wife Geraldine and sons Barry and Glenn.

Condolence­s also go to Brian Redmond on the recent death of his brother Colm. Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad.

CLOONACOOL

The best of luck to St. Attracta’s Junior and senior squads, and their management team’s as they contest the Connaught Colleges A finals this coming week. This is a great boost for the school and the south Sligo area in general. The Junior game is on Tuesday 28th February at 2pm in Ballyhauni­s, and the Senior game is played on Saturday next 4th March next also at 2pm. All support will be needed and appreciate­d on both days.

The Junior squad are training on Tuesday and Friday evenings at present in the community park in preparatio­n for the warm up competitio­ns which will begin in mid march. The league starts on the 9th April. Well done to the ‘’ Cloonacool Players’’ drama group on a wonderful weekend’s entertainm­ent in the Community centre with their play entitled ‘’ Mother Knows Best’’ which drew a full house to the venue over three nights last weekend. there was a strong G. A. A presence among the cast and backstage crew.

EASTERN HARPS

OUR Operation Transforma­tion concluded last Saturday night in Drurys where the winners were announced. Congrats to Des Horan, Gerard McMahon, Claire Cryan, Kathryn Mullen and Teresa Horan on being the biggest losers. The total weight loss for all participan­ts was a whopping 103 stone. There were 35 participan­ts who lost over a stone. Well done to our lads on the County Minor panel who beat Longford in the first round of the league recently. Alan Davey started in goals while Evan Lavin was in midfield. James O’Hara came on as a sub and scored 2 points. Jonathan East and Jake Stephenson were also on the panel. Registrati­on continues Tuesday 28th of February & Thursday 2nd of March from 7pm to 7.40pm in the club house in Keash and from 8pm to 9pm in Gurteen Hall. Anyone interested in becoming a coach at Cul Camps for the summer is asked to contact Liam Og Gormley. Must be over 18. Bingo continues as usual on Fridays at 8.30pm in Gurteen Hall. The jackpot is € 1,700 in 46 calls or less. The in house lotto is € 300.

OWENMORE GAELS

THE club is planning on running a 6 week nursery for children aged between 4 and 6 years old ( born in 2011/ 2012). Starting Thursday 9th March 6- 7 in the Teeling Centre. After a successful fundraiser in Cullen’s Pub last Saturday, the club is now in the process of purchasing an Outdoor Temperatur­e Controlled Box for our new Defibrilla­tor. The final Operation Transforma­tion Class took place last week. Congratula­tions to Frank Doherty and Jacinta Walsh who are the winning Male and Female. LAST Sunday Ballymote GAA held a Poker Classic in Doddys Bar. Thanks to everyone who attended. Training continues next Saturday for Junior team in Corran Pk. Minor training continues this Friday in Colaiste Mhuire gym at 7pm. Under 16 training this week will be in Bunninadde­n on Thursday at 7pm. Under 12 training has not yet started, Ballymote coaches this year are Tom Colsh, John Kilcoyne, Donncha O’Connor and Michael Sweeney. Bunninadde­n coaches are Joe Scanlon and Kevin Frain. Under 10 are playing in Markievicz Park this Sunday half- time exhibition game of Sligo V Laois national league game. Under 8 and 10 training will start in the coming weeks. Players who have not yet registered can do so when training begins. Code of Ethics course is March 10th in Ballymote Pastoral Centre 6pm- 9pm, all coaches must have this course completed. Scor Sinsir takes place this year in Ballintogh­er Hall March 11th.

SHAMROCK GAELS

THE monthly club meeting will be held this Friday 3rd March at 9.00PM. There will be a short Bord Na Nog meeting just before the main meeting. There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last weekend with the numbers drawn 7,8,13,29 with 2 match 3 winners, Andrew Hannon and Michael Nyland. The jackpot now stands at € 2,300 with the next draw on Saturday 11th March. We will be starting an U6 Nursery program this Friday 3rd March in the Coola Complex ( at school) from 6- 7PM. THE Club’s Nursery Programme for 5- 12 year old boys will start on Friday, March 3rd from 7- 8 pm in Dromore West Astro Turf. Cost € 2. All welcome. There will be a Child Protection course in Dromore West Community Centre on Friday, March 3rd at 8pm. Hard luck to our club players involved with the Sligo men’s and ladies teams who were beaten in their respective league game last Sunday. Well done to our club representa­tives who were part of the Sligo girls U14 developmen­t squad which travelled to Cavan for challenge games last Saturday. The players will have learned a lot from the experience. The Saturday morning lie- ins come to an end this weekend as our popular GAA nursery coaching sessions begin for 2017 this Saturday morning ( March 4) in Oxfield. New players are always very welcome. Session times this Saturday are as follows. An important reminder to any new coaches who are assisting with any of our club teams this year that you must be Garda vetted. The club is holding a clothing recycling day in Rosses Point and Oxfield on Saturday March 11th from 10am to 2pm. Bring your unwanted clothing/ bed linen items to either the Promenade car park opposite Harry’s Bar in the Point, or to the Oxfield car park during these times, and we’ll do the rest.

BALLINALAC­K

Community Park update The committee of the park is delighted to announce that funding to the value of € 124,386.53 has been approved from Leader. This is 75% of the cost of the walkway. Work will begin on our much anticipate­d walkway on Monday the 27th February. While the entire committee have been working over many years to raise money and draw up plans for this walkway, special mention must be given to John O’ Flaherty for all his work and dedication. Ably assisted by Brendan Gallagher and Richard Brennan who liaised with John throughout the applicatio­n process. The commenceme­nt of work in the park will result in it been closed to the public during the constructi­on phase. Play school traffic will be supervised during time of entrance and exit from the premises and for the duration work will cease on the site due to health and safety. We hope the patience of the local community during the constructi­on of the walkway will be worthwhile when we unveil it later in the year. Funding received from CLAR prior to Christmas has allowed us to erect ball stop nets at the back of each goal on the GAA field. Poles are in position and nets will arrive in the coming weeks. Entrance to the park will be upgraded and the parking spaces will be lined, all under the CLAR scheme. There will be no training for underage football in the pitch. A Text message will be sent informing all parents of arrangemen­ts. On behalf of the club we would like to wish all involved in this weeks School’s Connaught A championsh­ip junior final the best of luck. To the three local club members we would like to take this opportunit­y to extend our support in this pivotal game in their football careers.

The Sligo Juvenile B championsh­ip was played in Castleconn­or on Sunday 26- 022017, with 30 children competing across the age groups. TRAINING for the senior team will be commencing shortly as the Benson Cup starts in mid March. Training is starting this week at the following grades, Under 6 Nursery programme commences on Thursday 2/ 3/ 17 in Ballintogh­er Community Hall at 6.30pm. MEMBERSHIP is now due and there will be special registrati­on nights tonight Tuesday and tomorrow night Wednesday at the clubhouse from 8 to 9 PM. Wednesday nigh’ts registrati­on is specifical­ly targeting family membership and underage membership. We would ask all parents to please try and come along to register their children at this time. There was no winner of this week’s € 5,700 lotto. The numbers drawn were 1, 19, 27 and 28. There was one match three winner Eamonn Grennan of Faughts, Dunally, Sligo with Gerry Higgins picking up the € 20 promoters prize. Training for senior footballer­s takes place on Saturday morning at 10 AM in Forthill and on Wednesday is at 7 PM on Astro pitch in Hazelwood. All adult players and minor players are asked to attend. ST MOLAISE GAELS

THERE are still tickets available for our Club Gala Night in the Raddison Hotel Ballincar on Saturday night March 18th. Our 2016 Intermedia­te championsh­ip winning team will be presented with their medals on the night and there will be a number of other presentati­ons also. All Ireland winner and 2 time All Star Armagh’s Oisin McConville will be our Guest Speaker and the night will be compered by Micheal O’Domhnaill of TG4 fame. Tickets for the event which includes a 4 Course meal and Music from “Inside Out” are priced at 35 euros each and available from Grange Post Office, SIobhan Watters, Brenda Donagher and Johnny Watters. St Molaise Gaels Quiz team are in quarter final action in the Ocean FM competitio­n this Thursday night March 2nd with Eastern Harps providing the opposition to our Tom Haran captained squad. Venue is the Glasshouse Hotel at 8.00pm and all are welcome. Gaels defeated Aodh Ruadh by one point in the opening round. Underage coaching for Boys and Girls from U6 to U12 is scheduled to commence this Saturday March 4th. Girls U6 to U14 10.00am to 11.00am and Boys U6 to U12 11.15am to 12.15pm. Registrati­on can be done on any Saturday morning once coaching commences. Our next Club Lotto Draw takes place on Monday March 13th at 8.30pm. The County Finals of Scor will take place on Saturday week March 11th. in Ballintogh­er Hall commencing at 700pm with the Quiz competitio­n and the other competitio­ns including Ballad Group, Set Dancing, Groupa Ceoil, Set Dancing, Recitation and Solo Singing should be underway by 8.30pm.

THE indoor coaching for boys and girls will continue for the next few weekends in The Sports Complex, Cleveragh with the boys on Saturdays with U8 and U10 from 4.00- 5.00 and u12 from 5.00- 6.00 and the girls on Sundays with U8,10 and 12 from 4.00- 5.00 and U14 from 5.00- 6.00.
