ATHLETICS

The Master Athletics season starts on March 12 and Pádraig Maye, Aclare, is hoping to have another successful season. Last year, he began by competing at the British Masters in London, where he got second in both the Long and Triple Jumps, just missing out on two Irish records.

Then, just one week later at the Irish Indoors, he got first in the Shot, setting an Irish record. He added to this with a first in Weight Throwing and a second in both Long and High Jumps. Later in August, a trip to Belfast for the Ulster Championsh­ips provided three gold medals and a bronze. Finally, the athletic season ended at the outdoor Masters in Tullamore, where Pádraig won three gold in the Long Jump, High Jump and Javelin, with a silver medal in throwing the 28lb Weight and a third in the Shot.

Pádraig is wished all the best in his competitio­ns for 2017 and that his achievemen­ts will being further honour to the parish of Tourlestra­ne.

THE BEND IN THE ROAD

Castleconn­or Community Centre will host the Bend in the Road by Conor O’Callaghan on Friday, March 10, Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12, nightly at 8 p. m. Doors open at 7 p. m. Please come along for a great night’s entertainm­ent with laughter, tears, and tears of laughter.

Director, Allana Ní Mhíocháin, and the cast have put together a production that promises to both delight and entertain audiences young and old. MICHAEL MCGEE R. I. P.

The death has taken place of Michael McGee, Dunneill, Dromore West at Sligo Regional Hospital. His remains were removed from Sweeney’s funeral home to the Church of Our Lady Of perpetual Succour for requiem Mass and burial took place in Churchill Cemetry. Sympathy is extended to his wife Betty, family and relatives.

HERITAGE AWARD

‘ Bucks and the Thrashers’ an event held in Easkey during Heritage week last August has won the ‘ National Hidden Heritage’ award from the Heritage Council. Community members from Easkey travelled to Dublin to the awards ceremony to collect the award on behalf of the parish.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Easkey Leap group are putting a plan together for the St Patrick’s Day Parade in conjunctio­n with Enniscrone and Dromore West. All local business and organisati­ons are asked to take part in the parade by entering a float, get in contact with a Leap member if you need help.

CHILD PROTECTION COURSE

St Farnan’s GAA Club are holding a Child Protection Course on Friday, March 3, at 8 p. m. in Dromore West Community Centre. It is important that anyone involved with underage teams or thinking about getting involved in the future have this cert.

EOGHAN RUA LADIES

A large crowd attended the Eoghan Rua ladies’ football presentati­on night held in the Diamond Coast Hotel on February 11.

Championsh­ip medals were presented to the winning under- 12, under- 14 and under- 16 teams. League and championsh­ip medals were presented to the intermedia­te team. Sophie Barrins received the young player of the year award, Niamh Jacob the senior player award and Lorraine Tuffy was presented an award for the most dedicated player. Intermedia­te team manager John Feeney and selectors Liam Naughton and Ryan McKenna were presented with appreciati­on awards by the intermedia­te team.

Special guest on the night was Emyln Mulligan, Leitrim county player who presented all the medals and addressed the gathering. MC was chairman Raymond Carden.
