Sligo Rovers have named Acquired Brain Injury Ireland as their chosen charity for 2017. This will be the club’s fifth year to partner a local cause. Last year, the club worked with Sligo Cancer Support Centre to help raise funds for support services, for victims and families affected by cancer. Prior to that, the club also partnered with the Northwest Therapy Centre and Friends of Sligo Regional Hospital. “The aim of charity partners is to boost the profile of the charity, help raise awareness and to help raise much needed funds to support the excellent work carried out by these charities. “We would like to thank Sligo Cancer Support Centre for partnering with us last year; the partnership proved a great success and we wish them every success going forward,” the club said.

ABI has a unit in Tonaphubble and also a centre on Wolfe Tone Street.

Martin Heraghty, spoke about teaming up with ABI for 2017 and said: “The charity partner initiative has worked extremely well thus far for everyone concerned, and we are keen for this trend to continue.” He also said that working with local causes like ABI is very important to Sligo Rovers as a club and supports their ethos. “It’s important that we give back to the local community wherever possible.” Noel MC Cloat, from the management committee of Sligo Rovers said: “We are looking forward to developing a partnership with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland throughout 2017, and we are proud that we chose ABI as our charity partner for 2017.”
