CLOONACOOL

CONGRATS to St. Attractas Junior team on winning the Connaught Colleges championsh­ip last week in the Connaught Centre of Excellence by defeating St. Jarlaths college Tuam. Hard luck to their senior squad who went down to St. Colmans college Claremorri­s in the senior decider at the same venue. Our u/ 10 panel played an exhibition match during the national league game between Sligo and Laois in Markievicz Park on Sunday last. The panel members are as follows, Sean Haran, Padraig Cully, Diarmuid Cully, Sophia Calvey, Anna Kate Davitt, John Johnston, Johnny Walker, Fionn Hunt, Fiachra Haughey, Luke Kirrane, Adam Kirrane, Cian Quinn and Keelan Brennan. Well done to each and every one of them. Our nursery program for younger children is going very well and the kids are learning new skills all the time in a fun environmen­t, it continues on Friday evening in Cloonacool Community Centre from 6.30 to 7.30pm. THE club’s Nursery programme for 5- 12 year olds continues on Friday at Dromore West Astro Turf from 7- 8 pm. Cost € 2. Thanks to Darren and Roisin Mc Dermott for all their help on Friday last. ST MARY’S

THE Bord na nÓg Committee met and it is good to see that the many strands involved in the underage structure are active despite the playing season being a few weeks away yet. A well attended meeting heard that U14 boys have been having indoor coaching over the past 8 weeks and the format has been extended to U10’ s. Great excitement is guaranteed for our youngest members with a 4 week nursery program starting this week on Mondays in Summerhill Gym ( U6’ s between 6 and 7pm and U8’ s between 7 and 8pm). The meeting also confirmed management teams for all age groups from U6 to U18. In other areas, Saturday morning Coaching will commence on Saturday 1st April and in preparatio­n a clean- up day is planned for the previous Saturday ( March 25th). On the non- playing front, the annual Bord na nÓg flag day is timed for Saturday March 18th. The day before is St Patrick’s Day and we always make a big effort for the parade – so keep an eye to the messages that will be sent in this regard. Any adult who can help with preparatio­ns for the Parade should contact Niall Murray or Sinead Corcoran. The dinner dance is nearly upon us and will take place on Saturday March 11th. This has become an establishe­d and important part of our annual activities and always proves a great night. Tickets are available from Paul Corcoran ( Club Treasurer) or any club executive member.

UNDER 16 Bunninadde­n/ Ballymote are to kick off the season this Sunday the 12th March against Tubbercurr­y/ Clooacool at 11: 00am in Corran Park Ballymote. As work is underway for the new walkway in Ballinalac­k Community Park. The pitch remains closed, all training will be notified by text. Commiserat­ions to the St. Attracta’s Senior team and management on the defeat against St. Coleman’s of Clairemorr­is in the Connacht Senior A Championsh­ip final last Saturday evening in the Connacht Centre of Excellence Ballyhauni­s. Congratula­tions to the St. Attracta’s Junior Team who beat St. Jarlath’s in the Connacht Junior A championsh­ip final on Tuesday afternoon last with a score of 2: 08 to 1: 06. The team now go on to play the All Ireland semi final on Saturday next the 11th March and play the winners of Munster. The venue to be confirmed. THERE are still tickets available for our Club Gala Night in the Radisson Hotel Ballincar on Saturday week March 18th. Our 2016 Intermedia­te championsh­ip winning team will be presented with their medals on the night and there will be a number of other presentati­ons also. All Ireland winner, 2 time All Star and Masterchef Finalist Armagh’s Oisin McConville will be our Guest Speaker and the night will be compered by Micheal O’Domhnaill of TG4 fame. Tickets for the event which includes a 4 Course meal and Music from “Inside Out” are priced at 35 euros each and available from Grange Post Office, SIobhan Watters, Brenda Donagher and Johnny Watters. St Molaise Gaels Quiz team were defeated by Eastern Harps in the quarter final of the Ocean FM competitio­n on Thursday night March 2nd. Underage coaching for Boys and Girls from U6 to U12 continues this Saturday March 11th. Girls U6 to U14 10.00am to 11.00am and Boys U6 to U12 11.15am to 12.15pm. OUR club and county senior football captain Neil Ewing was on the scoresheet last Sunday as Sligo produced a spirited second- half display to beat Laois in Division 3 and collect two more precious league points. TWO of our versatile club footballer­s Ross Hickey and Hugh Kisby helped Summerhill College reach the final of rugby’s Connacht Senior Schools Cup thanks to a memorable 10- 9 win over Garbally College. Ross scored the game’s only try, while Hugh played his part at full- back. We wish the lads every success in the final at the Galway Sportsgrou­nds on March 15th. Another club member Ronan McCormack was part of the Summerhill senior soccer squad who narrowly lost their Connacht cup final last week. THE Scoil Réalt na Mara Rosses Point quiz team impressed in claiming the runners- up prize at last week’s Sligo Cumann na mBunscol Table Quiz finals. Well done to all involved. The school’s Parents Associatio­n is holding an Internet Safety Awareness evening for parents in the community this Wednesday, March 8th in Co Sligo Golf Club, starting at 7: 30pm.

INDOOR Astro Turf THE first training sessions took place in the indoor astro turf last Friday evening, with the facilities greatly appreciate­d on a wintry night! WHILE the playing area is now complete, the club needs to raise € 59000 to help bring the complex to completion ( heating, electrics, toilets, dressing room, kitchen etc.). In this regard, the club will require the generosity of the community: individual­s, families and businesses, both at home and abroad. AS previously advertised, you can sponsor a brick at € 100, a block at € 250 or a wall at € 1500. THE official launch of our fundraisin­g efforts will take place next weekend, and there will be a draw for cash prizes of € 1000 and € 500 for those who donate prior to the May Bank Holiday weekend. There will be teams in the various areas/ townlands to contact to donate, and there will also be weekly meeting points held around the parish to facilitate people who wish to donate. THE first of these takes place next Monday evening ( March 13th) from 8pm to 10pm in Sheridan’s Bar, Kilglass. FURTHER details on payment methods will be made available inside the next week.
