FUNDS RAISED

The Dromore West Strictly for Christmas Committee raised a grand total of € 36,688 ( profit) from the recent Strictly for Christmas fundraiser. This money has now been divided between the Dromore West Village Enhancemen­t Committee and Community Council, the outstandin­g debt that was owed on the astroturf pitch in Dromore West has been fully paid. Thanks to all of the sponsors, the local business people, the dancers and all involved in the event.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

A Mental Health Awarness Initiative for parents will be held in the Diamond Coast Hotel on Thursday, March 23, at 7.30. The workshop is free, booking is essential. Call 071 9138700.

SAD DEATH

The death has taken place of Farnan Jordan, Cannaghana­lly Dromore West peacefully at the North West Hospice. His remains were removed to the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Dromore West, for Requiem Mass and burial took place in Churchill Cemetry.

HIDDEN HERITAGE

‘ Bucks and the Thrashers’ an event held in Easkey during Heritage week last August has won the ‘ National Hidden Heritage’ award from the Heritage Council. Community members from Easkey travelled to Dublin to the awards ceremony to collect the award on behalf of the parish.

EASKEY PARADE

The St Patrick’s Day parade starts in Easkey at 3 p. m. Easkey Leap group is putting a plan together in conjunctio­n with Enniscrone and Dromore West. All local business and organisati­ons are asked to take part in the parade by entering a float, get in contact with a Leap member if you need help.

RECENT DEATH

The death on February 21 of Sister Brigid Shannon, Little Sisters of the Assumption, Dublin, formerly of New Zealand, and a native of Cloonanure, Gurteen. Her funeral took place in Dublin on Friday last. She was sister of the late Gerry, Sincere sympathy is extended to her sisters – Sister Mary and Sister Teresa, both of the Little Sisters of the Assumption, and to her sister- in- law Breege Shannon, Cloonanure, nieces and nephews extended family and many friends. May she rest in peace.

RECENT DEATH

The death took place in Wolverhamp­ton on February 22 of Brendan Conroy from Drumlistna. Sincere sympathy is extended to his family Susan, Darren, Peter and John, and to Eileen Connolly, Mary and Kevin in Boston and Peter in Wolverhamp­ton and to all his relations and friends. His remains will repose at Kilgarriff’s Funeral Home Ballaghade­rreen on Wednesday evening with removal to St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen, for 8 p. m. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at midday. RECENT DEATH

The death took place unexpected­ly on February 20 in sale, Manchester of David Scanlon. He was son of Claire Scanlon, Gurteen, and brother of Madeline O’Dowd, Elizabeth McLoughlin and Christine Mulligan. Sincere sympathy is extended to them and to their families and to his daughter Claire and son Jamie and all his many relations and friends. His funeral will take place in sale on Friday next. May he rest in peace.

BINGO

Bingo is on every Friday night at 8.30 p. m. in Gurteen Hall. The jackpot was won recently and started back again at € 1,700 – plus lotto raffle and big cash prizes on each game. Proceeds are shared between the hall upkeep and the local GAA Club Eastern Harps.

COMPUTER CLASSES

OWENMORE GAELS

The club is planning on running a six- week nursery for children aged between four and six years old ( born in 2011/ 2012). Starting Thursday, March 9, 6- 7 in the Teeling Centre. Fun programme and an introducti­on to GAA with fundamenta­l movement and basic skill developmen­t. All welcome. Plans for our new stand are complete and displayed in clubhouse. We are now in the planning permission stage. Anybody willing to join the fundraisin­g drive with € 20 per month for one year please contact Niall at 087 7609420.

After a successful fundraiser in Cullen’s Pub recently, the club is now in the process of purchasing an outdoor temperatur­e controlled box for our new defibrilla­tor. A total of € 567 was raised on the night from the raffle, and also donations by Thomas Healy and Collooney Tidy Towns and Redevelopm­ent Committee. A huge thanks to all who participat­ed, donated, and also those who sponsored prizes. There are too many to mention. Thanks again to Allen Banks of Cullen’s Bar, who sponsored the full € 1,000 for the new defibrilla­tor.

The final Operation Transforma­tion Class took place recently. Well done again to all involved. To round off a successful six weeks, an Operation Transforma­tion night was held on Saturday Night February 25 in Cullen’s Bar. Congratula­tions to Frank Doherty and Jacinta Walsh, who are the winning Male and Female. The Winning group are Martin Kirrane, Fidelma, Nicola Leydon, Mary Joe, Lisa Gilmartin, and Frank Doherty. Thanks to all participan­ts and also of the prize sponsors.

The lotto draw took place in Cullen’s Bar on Monday, February 20. The numbers drawn were 11, 16, 19 and 23. There was no winner of the € 5,900 jackpot. Congratula­tions to our four luckydip winners Donna Taaffe, Roisin Walsh, Kieran Taheny and Sarah Hennigan, who each win € 30.

Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and continues to support the club. As there was no winner this week, the jackpot rolls over to € 6,000. The next draw will take place in the Owenmore Inn Monday, March 6.
